The PHace Life

“Beauty is more than skin deep.”

-Marisa

At PHACE BIOACTIVE, we view health and wellness through a prism of pH. Radiant, glowing skin isn’t only about what you’re putting on top of your skin, it’s also a reflection of what’s hap- pening inside your body. For optimal health, we all need topical products with an acidic pH, and foods with an alkaline pH. An alkaline diet is one that relies on leafy vegetables, legumes, and whole grains, and allows your body to hang on to important minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium. A diet that is too acidic, or high in processed foods and sugar, leads to cells that aren’t able to get the minerals and oxygen they need. This extends well beyond the skin and affects our propensity for disease, weight gain, organ function, energy levels, and sleep.

FINDING YOUR IDEAL pH

Marisa Arredondo

Our ideal internal pH is 7.35
to 7.45. You can find out what your internal pH is by testing your saliva first thing in the morning with a multicolored pH strip. Over time, you will notice how different foods can effect your pH, and how different
your body feels as a result.

ALKALINE FRIENDLY FOODS

Marisa Arredondo

Alkaline-forming foods are naturally very high in the exact vitamins and minerals needed for good skin — antioxidants such as beta-carotene and vitamins A, C, and E, omega-3 fatty acids and zinc. They lead to a stronger immune system, improved digestion, and better skin tone.

Alkaline foods consist almost entirely of cleansing vegetables, low sugar fruits, pure water, soups, juices, salads, whole grains, and omega oils. They provide the body and skin with all of the nutrition it needs for optimal health. We follow the 80% alkaline/20% acidic principle while eating, because it keeps your body at the correct pH, and because we all need a chocolate chip cookie every once in a while.

WHAT ARE SOME OTHER BENEFITS OF
EATING AN ALKALINE DIET?

1. ENERGY The number one benefit of an alkaline diet is energy! Much like giving a car the right fuel, our bodies thrive when they get what they need.
2. STRESS RELIEF Not only does our diet affect our pH levels, but when we’re frequently stressed, not exercising, angry, popping prescription and over the counter medications, and smoking, our bodies become acidic. Stress releases acid-forming hormones called cortisol and adrenaline that inundate our bodies. This can be counteracted with lemon water, peppermint tea, or a detoxifying greens smoothie.

3. WAKE UP REFRESHED The body detoxes during the night and wakes up in an acidic state. Drinking lemon water first thing tips the body back to alkaline.
4. HEALTHY BODY & SKIN When we’re loading up the body with acidic foods like cof- fee, soda, processed foods, milk, meat, sugar, and bread, alkaline matter from our cells gets pulled out to neutralize all the acid forming in our body. As a result, cells become acidic and are more likely to develop disease. This imbalance can cause issues in our organs and blood, and also leads to toxicity that erupts through our skin in the form of acne, eczema, and inflammation.

OUR TIPS FOR A HEALTHY, BALANCED BODY

  • Detoxify your body by exercising. Sweat it out.
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. It allows your body to flush toxins out much
more easily, contributes to higher energy levels, and does wonders for your skin.
  • Add fiber to your diet.
  • Avoid the bad stuff: coffee, trans fats, alcohol, cigarettes, fried foods, red meat, white flour, sugar and dairy. The more
acids you throw in, the more toxins your body has to deal with and squeeze out.
  • Avoid artificial sweeteners.
  • Maximize nutrition with a multivitamin.
  • Take digestive enzymes, omega oils, pH drops, alkaline salts, and probiotics.
  • Juice! Drinking a fresh green veggie juice in the morning gives the body its minimum
quota of daily vegetables before you’ve even left the house!
